Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission files are in .doc format (Microsoft Word) and do not exceed 2MB.
  • The contribution is original and unpublished, and is not being concurrently evaluated for publication by another journal; otherwise, justification must be provided in the "Comments to the Editor" section.
  • The author(s) do not have any other submissions under review in the Journal as an author or co-author. Only another submission from the same individual will be considered after a one-year interval from the publication of the first submission.
  • The text comprises 15 to 25 pages, with 1.5 line spacing, Arial font, size 12; 3cm margins; A4 page size; figures and tables are inserted within the text, not at the end of the document as annexes. The text follows the style guidelines and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines section of the Journal.
  • The authorship identification of the work has been removed from the file and from the Properties option in Word, thus ensuring the confidentiality criterion of the journal, if submitted for peer review.
  • The resumen and resumo must be filled in both the submission file and the submission form. Authors' ORCID identifiers must also be provided.

Author Guidelines

Periodicity and publications: The Boletim Campinerio de Geografia (BCG) is published semiannually, proposing:

  1. Original research in the form of articles, recognized for their theoretical rigor and intellectual, scientific, and cultural relevance, related to geography;
  2. Reviews of national and foreign books, theses, and dissertations, recently published or defended (in the case of theses and dissertations) - three years for foreign works and two years for national works;
  3. Translations of texts of scientific-cultural relevance;
  4. Interviews of scientific-cultural relevance pertaining to the topics addressed;

The texts will be published in Portuguese. In exceptional cases, texts may be published in Spanish or English, provided that it is the author's native language. All texts must be written in accessible language, avoiding theoretical jargon and mathematical formulations, as long as it does not compromise the quality of the work.

Submission is Free of Charge: The submission of articles and other texts is entirely free. There are no Article Processing Charges or any fees for evaluation, copy editing or publication.

Evaluation and approval of texts: The proposed articles will be evaluated by the Scientific Council, which will issue opinions according to what is established by the BCG: "favorable without any restriction", "favorable, provided that the suggested reformulations indicated are observed" and "unfavorable". The proposals will be sent to two reviewers. In case of disagreement between them, a third reviewer will be consulted. Authors whose works receive an "unfavorable" opinion are not entitled to any kind of appeal. Observations:

  • In the case of a "favorable, provided that the suggested reformulations indicated are observed", they will be justified in the review sheet and forwarded to the author; If the reviewer's requests are not complied with, the texts will be rejected by the Editorial Board;
  • In the case of two unfavorable opinions, the text will not be published;
  • The anonymity of the authors and reviewers will always be maintained.

Regarding text formatting:

A) Articles:

  • Texts between 15 (fifteen) and 25 (twenty-five) pages; A4 page format; font size 12; font style "Arial"; line spacing 1.5; margins - right, left, top, and bottom - 3cm; paragraph (first line) 2cm. File format: .odt (OpenOffice) or .doc (Word);
  • Each article can have a maximum of 4 authors;
  • The beginning of the text should contain the title (centered and all uppercase) in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, followed by abstracts in Portuguese, English, and Spanish, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 15 lines, and a list of 5 keywords in the respective languages of the abstracts identifying the content of the text;
  • The works will be evaluated by the blind review system, and should not contain any author identification (explicit in the body of the text or in any form of hidden identification);
  • Acknowledgment: acknowledgment for assistance received in preparing the work should be mentioned at the end of the article.
  • Notes: notes referring to the body of the article should be indicated with a superscript number, immediately after the sentence to which it refers. It should not come at the end of the text but in the body of the text.
  • It is important for the text to have an introduction and a conclusion or final considerations;
  • Images: they should have good resolution for viewing in the document, sharp, with a maximum size of 16 x 20 cm, captioned in Arial font size 10; If the illustrations sent have already been published, mention the source.
  • Tables and charts: they must have a header that allows understanding the meaning of the gathered data, without the need for reference to the text, following the tabular presentation standards of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (available at http://bit.ly/normas-apresentacao-tabular). They should be organized in sequential numbering for each type, and their calls should be marked in the text, with the indication of the respective order number;
  • Bibliographic references: they should follow the ABNT author-date system (following the standards NBR-10520 - citations in documents; and NBR-6023 - references); footnotes should not be used for bibliographic references; long quotations (more than 3 lines) should constitute an independent paragraph, with a 4 cm indentation, without indentation in the first line; quotations, words, and concepts that are not in Portuguese should be provided to the reader in a footnote;
  • The bibliography should be presented at the end of the work, according to ABNT standards (and in alphabetical order).

B) Reviews

  • Texts between 3 (three) and 5 (five) pages, following the same formatting guidelines as articles;
  • Each review can have a maximum of 2 authors;
  • The beginning of the text should contain the complete bibliographic reference of the reviewed work, following ABNT standards;

C) Translations

  • Texts up to 30 (thirty) pages, following the same formatting guidelines as articles;
  • The beginning of the text should contain the title of the translation, in Portuguese and in the original language, and the complete reference of the translated work, following ABNT standards;
  • Authorization from copyright holders for publication in the BCG must be attached;
  • The work will be evaluated according to the criteria: relevance of the text and quality of the translation.
  • Translated texts from the original language, specific to geographical science, which are difficult to access in the original and/or considered fundamental to Geography, will be privileged.

D) Interviews

  • Texts between 10 (ten) and 30 (thirty) pages, following the same formatting guidelines as articles;
  • The beginning of the text should contain the title of the interview, location and date, the name(s) of the interviewee(s) and interviewer(s), with brief resumes;
  • Authorization from the interviewee(s) for the publication of the interview in the BCG;

Responsibility about the content: The concepts expressed in the works are the sole responsibility of the authors, not necessarily implying agreement from the editorial board. The editorial board is responsible for the guidelines that ensure the academic quality of the journal.

Papers

We publish original papers, and the authors undertake to declare that their manuscript is unpublished and is not being submitted, in part or in whole, to another journal. The journal publishes theoretical or thematic texts in the field of Geography (and/or from other areas, provided they establish dialogue with Geography). The article must be an unpublished text resulting from scientific research.
