Aquidauana-MS: Urban Planing, housing and periphery

Abstract

The high rates achieved by the urbanization process in Brazil in recent decades have shown the consolidation of the presence of cities and the growth of their importance in different regions of the country. Located in the center-west portion of the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, center-west of Brazil, the municipality of Aquidauana stands out for commanding a network, which includes the municipalities of Anastácio, Miranda and Dois Irmãos do Buriti. The object of study of this work was the intensification of the peripheral pattern of use and occupation in the urban area of Aquidauana, resulting from the decisions of the planning action of the public authorities. The objective was to discuss planning based on the reproduction of the urban space of Aquidauana marked by increasing poverty, deepening the crisis of and in the city. The methodology used was bibliographic review, consultation and organization of statistical data and the application of questionnaires. The research concluded that planning “rationality” contributed to intensifying the growth of the periphery in the urban area of Aquidauana, intensifying the fragmentation/segmentation of this space.
